1. Will fanzines and art books be returned after the exhibition?
Following the exhibition, all fanzines will be carefully archived by Fanzineist for potential future projects.
2. How many copies of publications should we send for the exhibition?
Only one copy of your fanzines and art books is required for the exhibition.
3. Will publications be available for purchase during the exhibition?
No, the exhibition does not facilitate sales. However, visitors are encouraged to explore the publishers’ online shops for purchasing publications directly.
4. Is participation in the exhibition free of charge?
Yes, participation in the exhibition is entirely free.
5. Will all submitted fanzines and art books be included in the exhibition?
Yes, Fanzineist Vienna strives to include all publications in the exhibition to celebrate the diversity of fanzines and art books. However, publications containing racist, homophobic, or discriminatory content will not be included.
6. How will the exhibition be promoted?
We promote all submitted publications extensively across our social media platforms. Additionally, the names of participating artists and publishers will be featured in our booklet/zine publication dedicated to Fanzineist Vienna 2026.
7. Crucial Information to Prevent Customs Issues!
Attention International Artists and Publishers,
When sending mail from countries outside the EU, it’s essential to include specific information to avoid potential issues with customs. Please ensure that your shipment is clearly labeled with the following details:
-State that the mail has no commercial value.
-Specify that you are sending books or brochures.
-Clearly indicate that the content is not intended for sale.
Mark as “Gift” or “Non-Commercial Sample”
✔ Declare a low symbolic value (e.g., 3-4 EUR)
✔ In the description field, write “Art Book for Non-Profit Exhibition” or “Printed Zine – No Commercial Value”
Failure to provide this information may lead to complications, as we have recently experienced with some mails from England, Mexico, U.S. These issues can include customs delays or, in some cases, the inability to receive the mail altogether.
8. What happens in case of a customs fee?
In such cases, we expect the sender to cover the cost. Many packages get held at customs, and while we sometimes cover these fees ourselves within our limited budget, we generally ask the sender to reimburse us afterward via PayPal or bank transfer.
For PayPal payments, you can use: fanzineistvienna@gmail.com
9. Should I send my zines by April 6th, or do they need to arrive on April 5th?
Ideally, you should send your zines before April 5th to allow for any possible shipping delays. If your package arrives by April 10th, that’s completely fine. Our exhibition runs from May 22nd to May 24rd, and we aim to organize everything in advance.
If we receive your zines by April 10, your name will be included in the exhibitor section of Fanzineist Vienna’s Mail Art Book & Zine Exhibition on our website in May. We therefore encourage participants to send their publications as early as possible.
10. Can I send paintings, posters, or other artworks?
No, our exhibition is exclusively for zines and art books. We do not accept paintings, posters, or other types of artwork.
11. Can I send multiple zines and art books?
Yes. You can send a maximum of 3–4 publications.
12.How will I know if my publications have arrived?
We share some of the zines and art books we receive on our Instagram story or posts (@fanzineistvienna). However, due to the high volume of submissions, we are unable to send individual confirmation emails. Please note that we cannot feature every publication on our social media.
Also, you can track your shipment using your tracking number for more information on its delivery status.
13. If I send you my art book or zine, do you buy it or pay for it?
Unfortunately, we don’t make any payments. We are a small team with a very limited budget. Every year we receive hundreds of books and zines through our open calls, and we do not pay for these submissions. Additionally, these publications are not sold at the exhibition.
14. Do you return the zines and art books we send?
No, we don’t. All submissions are kept by Fanzineist for use in future exhibitions and projects.
