George Gibson (UK)

I am an artist based in the UK, working as a bookbinding technician at Manchester School of Art as their bookbinding technician. I studied Fine Art there and spent most my time making zines, both on my own and under the collaborative identity of ‘Shy Bairns’. SB are a group of four artists who are interested in the intersections between contemporary art and bookmaking — together we have ran made zines, ran workshops, created installations about imagined paranormal investigations… In my solo practice I’m interested in fanaticism, obsessed with obsessions.

My work has covered a range of topics branching out from fandom and digital community; including a guide to Otherkin pop culture figures, societies inclination to sexualise fish, and queer retellings of Godzilla. Using traditional bookbinding combined with zine making processes, I aim to document online content, archiving niche moments of interest that could be deleted from existence in a click.
